How About Some Special Cuts of Pork After Shopping in Apgujeong?

Hello everyone!
Today’s post is about a restaurant in the Apgujeong district of Gangnam-gu.

Apgujeong is well-known as a shopping destination, and if you’re planning to enjoy some shopping here, I’d like to recommend a great place to eat afterward!

The green "Sangnoksoo" sign in Korean, taken in the evening.

The restaurant’s name is Sangnoksoo (상록수). Korean BBQ
What makes this place special is its selection of unique pork cuts that are hard to find elsewhere.

It’s called “Hwangji-sal.”(황지살) This cut comes from pork jowl(hangjeongsal 항정살), but with the excess fat trimmed off to highlight its chewy, satisfying texture.

Hwangji-sal with that beautiful pink-and-white color - so fresh and neatly trimmed.

What do you think? Maybe because the excess parts were trimmed off, the color looks really nice, right? The meat actually looks kind of pretty!

Golden-brown Hwangji-sal, grilled to perfection and cut into bite-sized pieces.

At first, it comes out in a round shape, but once it’s grilled and cut, it turns into these perfect bite-sized pieces! I loved how juicy and nutty the pork flavor was — I’m a huge fan of pork, so this was absolutely my kind of meal.

And of course, it can’t end here! If you’re visiting Korea, finishing your BBQ meal with fried rice (볶음밥) is an absolute must!

Bright red fried rice paired with vibrant green minari, A perfect color combo and totally appetizing.

Don’t worry if it looks red, It’s not spicy at all!
When I eat fried rice, I always make sure to press it down and let the bottom get crispy. That’s when the nutty flavor really comes out!

Turn up the heat and wait until you think, “Uh-oh, is it going to burn?”
That’s the perfect moment – give it just a little more time, and it’ll be absolutely delicious. Haha!

And don’t worry about burning it – the leftover pork fat on the pan keeps everything from sticking or burning. It actually adds even more flavor!

Here are the prices for the dishes I ordered:

  • Hwangji-sal (150g): 21,000 KRW (15.4 USD)
  • Fried rice: 4,000 KRW (3 USD)

If you’re ever in Apgujeong, I truly recommend this place!
When you’re traveling around Korea and feeling tired, treat yourself to some juicy Hwangji-sal and recharge your energy!

Thanks for reading today’s post, Just writing this while looking at the photos is making me hungry again. Haha😊
